Rice Type

The seeds of the rice plant are first milled using a rice huller to remove the outer husks of the grain. At this point in the process, the product is called brown rice. White rice is created by continuing the milling process whereby the rest of the husk and germ is removed.
There are more than 40,000 varieties of rice worldwide. Rice is categorized by it’s size as being short grain, medium grain or long grain.
Medium Grain Rice
Cooked grains are moist, tender and slightly clingy. This is best as a main dish like risotto and paella.
Short Grain Rice
Cooked grains are moist and stick together. This is good for rice pudding.
